As we wandered around the lagoon again, we found the reptile pavillion.
Pancake Tortoise ... a disappearing Woma
Sand Cat
We were enjoying watching the sand cat wander about its enclosure when one of the park staff came over. He said the cat was usually extremely elusive so it was definitely a special treat to see it! Sand cats live in the deserts of northern Africa and the Middle East. Their thickly furred feet protect them against hot sand but also keep their toes warm in winter. It eats rodents, lizards and small birds.
As we made our way to the park exit, we slipped into one last aviary called Wings of the World.
Who is stalking...
... whom?? A stealthy Hadad Ibis gets one over on Sean.
Southern Bald Ibis ... Waldrapp Ibis (with an impressive stick)
African Spoonbills
Surinam Crested Oropendola ... Chiniese Hwamei
Blue-bellied Roller ... Superb Starling (I'll bet it likes its name better than the Lesser Flamingo did!)
Hammerkop ... Nicobar Pigeon
An Abdim's Stork gives us a little dance.
We reluctantly left this wonderful place but were excited to continue the adventure in San Diego. About half an hour later, we were checking into the hotel which would be home for the next several days.
