PATONG (Day 12)

We left at 5:45 am to catch the sky train to Mo Chit station. From there we took a taxi to the airport.

We flew over wats, freeways, the river and then sea. An hour later, we were landing in Patong on Phuket ("Pooh-ket") Island.

We had booked our hotel in advance... and that came with a guy who picked up up from the airport. We hopped in a small white van. 40 minutes later, we were checking into our fancy hotel, Deevara Patong. We'd gotten a massive deal as part of their promotional package.

We walked to town and grabbed some lunch and booked some tours. It was an awful city, with loud booming bars, lots of smoking, and tons of prowling younger men as well as older men already with a young Thai girl hanging on his arm who looked more like his daughter. There were no wats or anything cultural. One can barely even tell it's Thailand.

We loitered about the beach for a bit. It was overcast but exceedingly humid! Eventually there was lightning and thunder in the distance so we made our way back before the rain hit.

It was nice to stay in a hotel though were everything actually worked. The toilet flushed; the sink wasn't falling off the wall; there was a separate shower area so the bathroom didn't get soaked; the fan worked and even had different speeds, and there was even a sheet on the bed instead of just an unwashed blanket.
