BANGKOK ZOO (Day 8)

The train arrived in Bangkok at 6:30 am. We caught the subway to the sky train then walked the rest of the way to the Sathorn Saint View hotel.

Of course, my room had no working water, no working fridge and no working fan. They told me I had to plug in the fridge, that fan controls were hidden in a cabinet, but no one knew about the water... but that someone would fix it. In the meantime, I went to take a shower in Gerald's room. Of course he had no hot water. Sigh.

We set out into town to run some errands and get some lunch.

Back at the hotel, I still had no water. This time I asked someone who fortunately knew what to do. All I had to do was just turn a lever at the main valve behind the toilet. Sure, so obvious I don't know why I didn't think of it.

Note that the showers are simply mounted on the way, which means EVERYTHING gets wet and stays wet.

In the afternoon, we set out again. It was very hot out! The loud, polluted, busy streets didn't help much.

We passed by the royal Chitralada Royal Villa. It was protected by a moat, tall fence and armed guards. Very large dark fish lurked in the thick, shallow green water. Along with turtles, we even saw a monitor lizard!

The entrance

The current king was Bhumibol Adulyadej (born in 1927 and ascended to the throne in 1946).

We went to the Dusit Zoo and took the tram around. It wasn't as big as the one in Chiang Mai, but it DOES have the world's only male albino common barking deer.

We saw sun bears, Asiatic black bears, tigers, white tigers, a black leopard, a tapir, a serow, a orangutan, giraffes, pygmy hippos, flamingos and more. The nocturnal exhibit was closed.

We went back to the hotel and I grabbed some dinner and rested. At 10 pm we headed out to the airport (via sky train and taxi) to the airport. Our friend Ron's flight was due at 11:25. Unfortunately it didn't arrive until 1:10 am. We took a taxi back to the hotel and arrived at 2:15 am.
