SLIEMA (Day 13)

We did some final shopping in the morning, then packed our bags and left them with Joe, the hotel manager, behind the second floor lobby desk. We had a couple hours still before having to head to the airport, so we strolled along the coastal boardwalk.

When we arrived back at the hotel, we noticed that one of our suitcases was gone. At first we thought Joe was playing a friendly trick on us, but eventually we all realized the bag had somehow been stolen. After searching the hotel with no success, we went to the police station to file a report. About 20 minutes later, the bag was discovered behind the hotel, cut open with all its contents scattered about. Most of our clothing was recovered but all our gifts and a large quanitity of souvenirs were gone. Also missing was one videotapes of our trip (hence a couple sparse pages in this journal of days 7, 8 and 9, plus an entire day I have no images from so I just left it completely out).

We managed to put everything back together as best as possible and then rushed off to catch our plane. Joe felt responsible and promised to help us replace some of our souveniers... which he did by sending us a few lovely items a week or two later.
