INDONESIA (Bali)
DAY 19
We took another day tour. We visited Mas (with some demonstrations of wood carving and an all too expensive mask store), Celuk (the center for gold and silver), and then continued on to Denpasar. The large museum there was designed in a temple lay-out and filled with old masks and prehistoric tools. At the Pasar Badung market, we were met with some outrageous fruit prices but the selection was fascinating.
We then went to Uluwatu temple on Nusa Dua island. The whole place was overrun with monkeys, but the view was stunning.
After a long windy road back, we arrived at Kuta beach, which was simply just a long white sand beach. But the street sellers were pushy and Balinese culture was in short supply so we didn’t stay too long. On our way back we stopped at Peliatan, known for its paintings (but one piece cost as much as our entire trip).
Since no evening was complete without a dance, this night it was the Mahabharata dance.
DAY 20
In the morning we did some final shopping and chatted with several of the locals we had come to know... store owners, street vendors, bus drivers, hotel staff, etc. Eventually we caught the airport shuttle and began a long, disorganized trip home.
