INDONESIA (Bali)

DAY 10

We went to a monkey forest located just down the street. The monkeys ran around free, but the locals warned about their unpredictable behavior. We found that as long as one didn't tease them with food, they were very well-behaved. One girl hid food all over her body and then got upset when her head and hand got bitten.

We walked on in the unbearable heat to Goa Gajah ("elephant cave", named after the elephant-head god Ganesha). One can enter the dark narrow cave or just walk around the old 11th century complex. The policy at many of these temples is if your legs aren’t covered then you have to wear a sarong.

A bit further in Pejeng, we saw the Pura Penataran Sasih temple and the largest bronze kettle gong in the world. We got somewhat lost on the way back and got quite sunburned.

In the afternoon, we rested and sipped our tea. We finally got our laundry back from two days ago. We had seen it laying on the grass, drying. My shirt was mildewy, a wash cloth was stained blue, and a towel was dirtier than when we gave it to the guy. On top of all that it was rather expensive!

That evening we took in another dance, the Barong dance.
