DAY 4

Today we took a tour to see a few of the local sights. Our first stop was Borobudor. Built in the 9th century, it is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. It's considered good luck to be able to touch one of the Buddhas buried deep within a stupa.

After a long stop at another batik store, we drove on to Kaliurang, a mountain from which one gets a good view of Mt Merapi... when it’s not cloudy. We didn't get a view but we did get to enjoy a short walk through a bamboo forests and palm trees.

At a local fruit market, we bought some jackfruit (the largest fruit in the world) and durian (called stink fruit).

Next we paid a visit to Prambanan, the second largest Hindu temple. The tall narrow pyramid-like structures were covered with carvings both inside and out.
