SEQUOIA (Day 5)
Unfortunately our trip was coming to an end. We made our way back toward Grant Grove and the 180 Highway... with a few last stops.
Overlooking the Sierra Nevada wilderness, the second largest roadless landscape in the lower 48 states.
These areas were preserved in the 1960's.
The Redwood Mountain Grove contains the world's tallest sequoia (312 feet). It is the world's largest sequoia grove. At one time, the Converse Basin Grove (10 miles north of here) held that title, but during the early 1900's, most of its trees were cut down for lumber.
