We drove down the hill to the Coast Trail.

Exhibits from the Kelp Forest Overlook ... The gated area of the new lighthouse

The Coast Trail ran along the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

It took me a moment to realize this hermit crab was actually done up to look like a little conquistador!

The creation of the multiple rock layers

These cliffs slice through 75 million years of sediment history. They were formed when this spot was 3,500 feet under the sea. Mud and sand eroded from the shore and flowed into the ocean. Over millions of years, the weight of all these layers compressed the sediment into rock. Eventually seismic activity pushed the rock above sea level. Waves slowly carved away at the shoreline, creating the cliffs here today.
