UNIVERSAL STUDIOS (Day 5 - part 4)

We took the escalator back to the Upper Lot in order to catch the timed performance at Waterworld.

Waterworld was a 1995 post-apocalyptic action film. In the future, the planet is almost completely covered by ocean because the polar ice caps have melted and the sea levels have risen so drastically. People can now only live on floating metal structures called Atolls. The show takes place in one such place.

Details of the set

Testing the Splash Zone!

The show opens with Helen rushing in on a small boat as she is being pursued by Smokers, who are evil bandits led by the Deacon. He captures Helen and tries to force her to tell him the location of the Dryland she has discovered. When she refuses, he begins harming her fellow Atollers. Suddenly the Mariner erupts from underwater via jet ski (many of these performers are world champion jet skiers). The next 20 or so minutes follows the battle between the Mariner and the Deacon.

Helen enters and tells them to close the gates right away.

The Smokers break in ... with the Deacon right behind.

Wreaking havoc

The Deacon makes his demands ... which aren't met, so an Atoller is despatched with.

The Mariner to the rescue!

Dramatic stunts

The Deacon begins shooting at the Mariner but hits a water tank...

... and eventually also the fuel tank.

Just as it appears the Deacon has won...

... the tables turn.

The fire goes from bad ...

... to worse.

We decided it was time for some lunch so we returned to the City Walk. We ended up at NBC Sports Grill Brew.

The menu (sorry, playbook) was quite cute, with Starting Lineup (appetizers), Side Lines (a la carte extras), On The Green (salads) and Game Time and Home Run Handheld (main meals). Almost forgot Final Play (desserts)!
