FRUITA (Day 1)

I set out around noon for the 4-hour-drive over the Colorado Rocky Mountains to Fruita.

A brief stop in Glenwood Canyon and the Colorado River

Cliff was supposed to meet me in Fruita but had car troubles, so he was going to be a few hours later than planned. So I hung out at the Colorado Welcome Center for a while.

This area is known for its dinosaur fossils.

Watching the sunset ... A cowboy statue enjoyed it too.

Across the parking lot was a Vietnam War Memorial, so I spent a bit of time wandering around it.

I finally met up with Cliff around 8:30 pm. We had a few errands to do and last minute food items to buy. We also spoke with the ranger at the James M. Robb State Park (where we'd be leaving from the next morning) and sorted out parking costs. By 11:15 pm, we had returned to the Colorado Welcome Center parking lot which allowed for overnight parking. I pulled my sleeping bag from the trunk and curled up in the back seat of my car. It was a bit cramped but I was comfy enough.
