- Cremation (mile 87) to Granite (mile 93) -
We left around 11:30 and decided to cut the day short, with fewer rapids. We set up camp just before Granite Rapid. It was very, veeeeery hot and humid.
Horn Creek Rapid is one of the big ones (a 7-9 with a 9-foot drop) at mile 90.2. Two large submerged rocks create two points or horns in the rapid.
A successful run. Waiting for the others.
Fortunately after that, we got some peaceful floating.
Approaching a minor rapid
When entering a rapid, you want to aim for the V-shape in the water (which indicates the still part).
Starting the drop
We pull into Granite Camp, which is just upstream from Granite Rapid.
The distant roar of the rapid is a constant reminder of things to come.
Looking upstream. Note the highly eroded sandbank (lower right)
Getting comfortable
Some entertainment
On dinner duty
Filling buckets for the dish washing system
An intense game of tug-of-war
A crimson sunset
I was on dinner duty again. We had falafel, tabouli, hummus and salad. There were also margaritas!
