DRIVE (Day 10 - part 1)
It was quite chilly when we left in the morning! We followed the 50 to the I70.
The beautiful scenery of Utah
Salt Wash area
Ghost Rock area
Temple Mountain area
Approaching the San Rafael Swell
The San Rafael Swell is a 75-mile-long and 40-mile-wide wall of sandstone, limestone and shale.
1) Just the wooden frame .... 2) Being filled in with dirt
Along the highway were all these strange wooden walls. It wasn't until we finally saw one being filled up with dirt that we realized these were wildlife escape ramps. The ramp is a vertical wall on the wilderness (non-highway) side. If an elk or deer accidentally gets stuck on the highway, it can run up the ramp and jump off the backside to safety.
3) A newly completed ramp .... 4) A well-used older ramp
