HEARST CASTLE & PCH (Day 7 - part 8)

Heading north on the Pacific Coast Highway...

Approaching Bixby Creek Bridge

Castle Rock Viewpoint

Before the opening of the Bixby Creek Bridge in 1932, people had to travel over the inland Old Coast Road that often got cut off during winter due to impassable blockages. With the main span of 360 feet (and total length of 714 feet), it was the longest concrete arch span on the California State Highway System. It is one of the tallest single-span concrete bridges in the world.

The beach and colorful water below

We arrived in Monterey in the early evening and made our way to Alvarado Street.

We had some sensational beers at Fieldwork brewery! It was outdoor seating only, but fortunately powerful heat lamps helped stave off the chill in the air.

A spectacular sunset!

Back on Alvarado Street, we grabbed some food at a fun Mexican restaurant called Papa Chano's that offered self-serve chips & salsa.
