We returned to Newport Beach again, this time to a lovely little location nestled between Balboa and Laguna.... Crystal Cove. The state park covers 12.3 areas along the coast. It protects both the beach as well as an old historic district comprised of 46 cottages built in the 1920s and 1930s.
We parked at the main lot then walked under a tunnel to the beach.
The tunnel was covered with various artwork, much of it done by kids.
Wow, these kids know their ocean critters!
Arriving at the historic beach district
The cottages were built by the Irvine Company. After the Pacific Coast Highway opened in 1926, this became a favorite summer destination. Many of the cottages could rented out. All new construction was stopped in 1939 and the community became frozen in time.
The visitor center was located in one of the old cottages.
The old kitchen was left as it was.
Dune buggy wheelchairs for rent!
Rows of old cottages
Unfortunately the museum was closed. Many movies have been filmed here over the course of the years, beginning as far back as 1917.
