DRIVE (Day 16 - part 2)

We took a short break at the museum which was filled with local history.

The first school house ... The Wild Bunch (including the Sundance Kid and Butch Cassidy) used this area as a hideout

The impossing San Rafael Swell, circa 1921

Numerous river expeditions, including by Robert Brewster Stanton (1846 - 1922) and William Lewis Manly (1820 - 1903)

Continuing from Utah into Colorado...

We stopped for lunch in Fruita.

Because of the huge amount of fossils found in this area, Fruita is stuffed full of dinosaur images.

Grrrreta was named in 2000. I think she could easily break free if she wanted!

We dined and "beered" at the Kannah Creek Brewing Company.

Along with our tasters, the waitress mixed us up a special drink comprised of 1/2 blond beer, 1/2 amber beer and a splash of amaretto. It was absolutely superb!

NOT what we ordered!

Driving on...

Just outside of Palisade off exit 47 was a small monument dedicated to the pioneers of western Colorado.

The De Beque Canyon roller dam is a designed to mitigate erosion. The Grand Valley Diversion Dam is a 14-foot high, 546-foot long concrete roller dam with six gates. Built between 1913 and 1916, it was the first and largest of its kind to be installed in the US. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Colorado River and Glenwood Canyon

We stopped at the Grizzly Creek rest area and wandered the trail down to the river. The fall colors were lovely.

The Colorado River ... This was a good rafting spot.
