TAHOE (Day 6)
We had attempted to repair the air mattress with duct tape but couldn't find the actual leak... so once again we found ourselves on the extremely cold ground by morning. We had been worried about an incoming storm but fortunately the sky was blue.
Morning at the campsite
We packed up and hit the road. We opted to take the main highway to Reno instead of the more scenic (and higher elevation) route over Truckee, just to be safe from any storms.
In Susanville, we grabbed some breakfast at Lumberjacks, which had a ubiquitous wood-chopping theme. They even showed log cutting competitions on a tv.
We stopped at Walmart and bought a new air mattress then continued on to Reno.
Reno
At Great Basin Brewing Co, we had some scrumptious tasters... including a Kaffir Lime Leaf & Basil Saison.
We followed that up with a visit to the nearby Brasserie Saint James.
From Reno, we took the scenic State Route 431 (or Mount Rose Highway) to Lake Tahoe. The temperature continued to drop, and by the time we reached South Lake Tahoe, snow flakes began to fall. Fortunately we were in another motel for the night.
Approaching the storm
Lake Tahoe from a viewpoint by Incline Village. This is the largest alpine lake in North America, with a length of over 21 miles, a width of over 12 miles, and an average depth of 980 feet.
