LAS VEGAS (Day 12 - part 2)

We exited the covered part of western Freemont Street and continued outside along the eastern part.

Looking back at the covered section

The Heart Attack Grill is a highly controversial restaurant with a high-calorie menu... such as hamburgers up to 8,000 calories and all-you-can-eat french fries cooked in pure lard.

Customers who weigh over 350 pounds (160 kilos) can eat for free. This guy clearly has a long way to go.

Uh... this one I'm not going to explain. Either you get it or you don't!

Entering the east part of Fremont Street

Container Park was started in 2013 using recycled shipping containers. These now house stores, restaurants and other entertainment.

In the front was an enormous praying mantis... that shot flames from its antennae!

The Mantis is a 150:1 scale exact replica of a female praying mantis. When fully extended, it is 40 feet tall and 30 feet wide. It burns about 50 gallons of liquid propane each day. Created by Kirk Jellum, it was built in 2010 for a Burning Man festival with a team of 20 people and over 3,000 hours of labor. It can drive and is actually street legal!

People watch the various shows from a container.

There was a performance on the small stage of some very young girls doing some very adult poses!

A view from the upper story

A circle of volunteer drummers accompanied (and encouraged) the Mantis to do its thing...

We walked back to the other end of Fremont street. By now it was dark and the lights, sound and shows were in full force.

Security barricades had been set up to monitor people coming in and out of certain sections pertaining to the upcoming free concert.

The Golden Nugget, built in 1946, was the first structure designed from the ground up to be a casino.

More street entertainers

This sax is actually a giant cup!

Getting one signed by Carl "Safe-sax" Ferris

The Rock of Vegas show

Vegas Vic waves from atop the Pioneer Club.

A fabulous show of graphics and music played overhead.

The band, 3 Doors Down, was supposed to start at 9 pm. The place was absolutely packed and people were not super friendly. We eventually found a spot then waited another half hour before the band actually came on. We weren't impressed so left after only a song and a half.

See a few clips from the shows!

Somebody overdid the excitement!

Or maybe he just saw this sign!

We got back around 10 pm. Dave was gracious enough to let me have the giant king-size bed. This thing was SO large that I could even sleep completely horizontally on it!
